The flamenco guitar we make in the workshop is a unique design with a rather wide plantilla. The guitar is inspired by ideas of Santos Hernández as well as some more of the Masters of his Era.
The soundbox of this guitar is slightly larger than the traditional Granada-guitar. This way the sound has a little more debth.
The Flamenca Blanca is the most traditional guitar, designed to acompany singers and dancers. Traditionally it is made with Spruce and Spanish Cipress, timbers that in the old days were available in Spain and were therefor less expensive. Apart from for the typical flamenco sound cipress also provides a very pleasant smell.
Western Red Cedar can also be used for the soundboard, although it isn't traditional.
Flamencas Negras became prominent in the 50's of the 20th century when some Flamenco guitarists like for example Ramon Montoya gained fame as virtuoso musicans and started performing solo concerts. As they performed alone, as protagonists, they required more depth and sustain from their instruments.
Flamencas negras, or Concert Flamenco guitars can be made with a Spruce or Cedar top. The backs and sides can be various types of Rosewoods, such as Madagascar Rosewood, Indian Rosewood, Cocobolo and Bubinga. Other types of woods available are Ziricote, Pau Ferro, ...
Construcción a Medida
There two types of Flamenco guitars. The Flamenca Blanca and the Flamenca Negra.
For Flamenco guitars we tend to use a slightly longer scale, 660mm, however, on request we can make an instrument with different scale length, for example 650mm or a short scale (640mm).
There are several standard measurements for the width of the fingerboard:
-Nut: 50mm, 12th fret: 60mm
-Nut 52mm, 12th fret: 62mm
-Nut 54mm, 12th fret: 64mm
